Can I Use Anything I Have?

well i am thinking of having a saltwater fish tank in the future. But right now my turtles are living in a 30 gal tank but in a month or so we are going to build a pond out in the backyard. so since i was going to have a tank laying around i was thinking or making a saltwater aquarium. So i was wondering if i still can use my 30gal tank and my Rena XP3 Filter that i have. and another question is what what i need for a saltwater aquarium? Sorry if i put this in the wrong section but i couldnt find a place in salt water
