 Ok i got a male and female silver mollie about 5 months and since then they have had 15 babies plus is there anyway to stop this and would the pet shop take the babies of me?????? :/

Hi Snotirl

The only way to stop them breeding is to split them up  . The female will still produce fry for up to three months, as they can store seman in their bodys.

The only way to see if the lfs will tank the babies is to ask.

ok thank you could u tell me how to get my information up about what i have?

Buy yourself a mini predator to eat the babies :grr:

i have mollies to and by the time you deal with all of those babies that you are going to have you will wish you had of listen to catfishcrazy. At first I though that sounded mean but I have close to 200 fry and nothing to so with them and they are pregnant again. so good luck with what ever you decide to do.

i will not buy any predators to kill them, it's way to cruel
No one suggested that you do,Snotirl asked the question and didnt say whether he/she was screamish about what to do with fry.
Most shops wont take livebearer fry and friends will only take so many so using them as food is the best option left unless you want multiple tanks full of mollies breeding like rabbits.

I will agree with you cat fish crazy because I have that problem already I have almost 200 fry and more on the way with no where to house them. I know that sounds mean but what else is anyone to do the lfs wont take them and I cant afford to keep buying tanks for them either I am splitting mine up as soon as I get me a 29 gallon to house the females in. I have one male that is crazy if they aint a female in there with him he will jump out of the tank on me he is crazy.

ok so what type of preadtor should i buy if the worst comes to the worst   :/ :alien:

Now your talking   The type of predator you get all depends on where you want to house it,in the tank with the mollies or in a seperate tank where you have to net the fry from the mollie tank and into the predator tank at dinner time.
If the former then it will have to be something that wont grow big enough to eat the mollies nor be aggressive toward them, for this i would suggest south american leaf fish or one of the smaller ctenopoma (climbing perch) species providing there is no salt added to the aquuarium, both fish will only reach around 3 or 4 inches and are harmless to anything not seen as food.
If the latter then you can have anything you fancy but just make sure that it wont grow so big that it stops bothering to eat the fry,i would suggest one of the dwarf snakheads,a bichir (polypterus species) or one of the smaller pike cichlid species.

I dont thing i could do that see i have raised from babies in my tank I hate to see them eatin ill see if the pet shop takes them thanks anyway!! B)

I dont think catfishcrazy was talking about the fry you have right now I think he was more or less talking about future fry which you Will Be Having every 28 days or so trust me they will be more that you know what to do with in less than 6 months you will have more than you can shake a stick at so to speak. The mother will eat them to my mollie ate almost everyone of her fry I only had like 10 of my last babies to deal with. I use to be the same way until I figured out that I could not keep on buying tanks. I am here to tell you it will break you up trying to keep enough tanks to house all of them in it is just like catfishcrazy said they breed like rabbits

some fish (convicts) are happy breeding like crazy. and they just do not care what others think of them. some species of fish do care for their fry and take marvelous care of them. others turn the fry into lunch when the going gets tough. at first i thought it cruel to feed fry to my fish and then i saw how happy everyone was the convicts cause they could breed as many times as they wanted. the fish who ate the fry were healthier than feeding them feeder guppies. yuck!

the first time that i tried to keep a convict from breeding i think she died of a lonely heart. was new at fishkeeping. she kept on laying the eggs and there was no male to fertilize the eggs. the other fish ate the unfertilized eggs as well as herself. then one day i found her dead. either she dies protecting the babies that would never be or she just gave up. think i am giving too much sentiment to a fish.

just the way that nature is.
