Hello everyone,

We are new to the fish tank world and started a 36 gallon bow front fresh water tank. I wanted to get live plants to grow too so I put on the marineland LED light with timer that should support plant growth.  The problem is that the brace across the top blocks some of the light.  This was not too much of a problem with I had a fluorescent lamp.

Are there any solutions that I can employ to get the brace out of the way?  Can I cut it and re-attach with say some fishing line or other thin wire?  Could I just cut out a wedge from the side to make a narrow point that does not block the LED's?

Thanks

try to make it a clean cut and when you want to add it back super glue :D
or if you have some area on top of the tank you can raise the light.

Try using some dental floss between the two layers and "sawing" your way through the silicone joint, dental floss is very strong and resists heat better that fishing line and won't work harden and snap like most wire would become, Just be aware that they put braces in place for a good reason

As stated above, the brace is there for a reason. If you go cutting it up it immediately invalidates the warranty not to mention the guilt I'd feel if the tank broke afterwards from some dodgy DIY.

(Correct in thinking the brace is the bar through the middle at the top of the tank?)

I would leave the brace in place - if it's only a couple of inches wide and clear glass it shouldn't make much difference to the light - just keep it clean.
