I have a 10gal with just a black skirt tetra in it. Hes been in there for well over a year now. I also have a betta in just a bowl and i was wondering if i could put the betta into the 10gal.

The bowl is not heated and of course the 10gal is. Would they get along? Not sure weather betta is male/female.

in a word, no. black widow tetras are very nippy fish and the long fins would be eaten and frayed. but thats my experience with them though :)

Yea, I would just get some more tetras.
I have had bad experiences with bettas and black tetras, too. They do not go well together.

small and fast tetras would do fine with your betta...just avoid getting fish with long tails....like guppys....

I had a Betta with, 2 Black Skirt Tetra, 2 Serpae Tetras, 3 Zebra Danios, 1 Swordtail, 1 molly. And he was fine always had full fins and no one ever bugged him (well that i saw) I would recomend it. :D

tetras are a schooling fish and need to be in groups of atlest 4, a group of 6 is even better...

I would say yes as I have had a betta with my lonely black skirt before with no problem. My black skirt is rather shy because he has no friends and when I had the male betta with him, the betta was just fine. I'm sure if you added more black skirt tetras -and I think you should, they would feel more comfortable and might 'attack' the betta if he was in there.

What you should do is place the betta in there and see how things go. Apparently whether black tetras/bettas get along depends on the personality of the individual fish. Placing them together and carefully observing them (with net in hand incase something goes very wrong) is the only way you'll find out if you can keep yours together.

This is what I tried, and mine hated each other. The betta wasn't harmed, but it would flare and chase the tetras constantly. Maybe you will have different luck.

Well maybe ill go try that now :D Ill tell ya all how it goes!

yes i know, He was just the only survivor of the fish i put in there. Hes Been the only one that could live in there, its weird. Hes been living in there alone for quite a long time now and seems really happy.

The betta looks awesome in there! Hes swimming aound a lot and is already eating in his new tank. I think he really likes it. I wish lots of bettas could be put togather cause their so pretty.

Would i be ok to add a few more black skirts to the tank? The one in there now hasent touched the betta at all. Once the tetra got a little close and the betta flared at him and the tetra swam away lol.

Always keep your tetras in groups. As for the original question, right now i have a female betta in with 3 black skirt tetras and 7 white skirt tetras and they leave her alone completely, along with my fancy male guppies. Never had these tetras nip any of my fish or their tails. They often quarrel just amongst themselves for superiority, and are probably more scared of the betta. Tetras are a nervous, schooling, but social fish. They're not known for being bossy and pushing all the other fish around. Such well behaved fish :D .

sweet, Well i guess ill go out and buy 4 or so more black skirts :D

well woke up this mornin and the black skirt was chasing roun the betta quite a bit. Not really nipping but wouldnt leave the betta alone. Hes fine and is eating and swimming round real well. Back to the bowl alone for Mr. Betta...
