There's a snail living on a window outside, he's rather large, maybe 1". Can i put him into my tank? :dunno:

I wouldn't think so....pond snails, and the "fancy" types of snails are completely different from garden snails.

I would assume that a pond snail couldn't (or wouldn't) be crawling around outside of water.

But then again, I'm not a snail expert.

haha u just reminded me of wut i did one time when i was like 7 i put a snail from outside into my sisters marine tank, she got so mad, not makin fun of u just dont do it cause you'll end up with a dead snail with bacteria in a healthy fish tank

Thanks for the help everyone. I had a feeling that it wouldn't survive in the water. I'll let it live on the window. Maybe i'll buy some actual water snails one day... i'm sure my clown loaches will love them. :D

If anyone wants a silly laugh... If you get some of those snails that hitchhike on plants (the type with the circular flat shells, dunno what they're called) and put them in a tank, then wait until they get up near the waterline.

If you then remove enough of the water so they're out of it and above the waterline, after a minute they will go back in their shells and "let go" of the glass to drop back in the water... First time it happened to me during a water change I couldn't figure out what was happening. :D
