I am planning to add new fish to the tank. I really want to keep 1 pair (1 male and 1 female) in the tank. The tank has hiding spots, but doesn't have real (live) plants. In the future I will be getting a new tank 55+ , and might convert the 30 gallon into planted.
But for now, the tank has:
1 Black Skirt Tetra (Long-Finned)
4 Lemon Tetras
6 Neon Tetras

K here are the questions:

Shud I, or shud i not keep a pair of blue rams?
And what are the other colors out there for rams?
What do German Rams in general eat??
Will they be compatible with cory's (plan on getting some later) or a pleco?
How do you tell the difference between a male and female?
Once I get home, i'll check the pH and the other stuff, and will post here.

Thx, :)

Kool,
I'll try to find a good pair, maybe at aquabid, or at the lfs.
Thx

maybe get 2 females to 1 male, it makes it easier on the females to fend off the Male's advances if they don't want to mate.

I currentyl have a pair of males (in a large tank and hopefully getting 3 females today) and they're lovely. very inqusitive and always poking about the substrate looking for food. Unlike my Apisto's they're also not particularly fussy in what they eat. They're not a big fan of flake but seem to accept sinking granules and all sorts of frozen food.

A pair or trio would be great there. (You might also want to get a few more blackskirts, as I think they like groups.) There is a blue and a gold ram... the golds are much harder to sex. They are great fish with loads of personality and eat everything!
Once they get ready to breed the colors are amazing! I'm sure you'll love them!

Hmm... should i go with a trio or a pair. I've heard that in a trio, sometimes they pair up and kill the one thats alone.
Would a ram eat frozen bloodworms, and live brine shrimp, and flakes?
I have hiding spots, but only 1 cave, and i think the ram would really able to hide in it. Should i get maybe extra caves, or maybe a pot, or bogwood??
And 1 last question lol, are rams comptabile with a pleco, or maybe a few cories??

A trio of 1 male and 2 females is fine, just make sure it's not 2 males and 1 female as the males would harrass the females too much. Mine love live bloodworm and frozen brineshrimp but aren't so big on the flakefood. Plenty of hiding spots is of course a must , you can never have enough bogwood and caves.

Rams will get along fine with cory's but I'm not really sure about the Plec, I've heard plec's can get pretty big and will devour anything that fits into it's mouth

K, ill get 1 peice of bogwood, and add 3 caves. Then maybe in a month i'll experiment with basic live pants.
What would sit my tank better though, a trio or a pair??
And if i decide to get a trio, should I plan on getting them together?

I'd try for a trio and get them all at once. That will be the best way. Mine eat anything and everything from flakes to frozen to spiralina pellets to shrimp pellets.
They'll get along great with cories. I think plecs tend to get aggressive over their territory, but I could be wrong.
Most other fish are fine (so long as they are community fish of course). I think you'll really enjoy the rams. They're great fish.

mmm... K
I'll start looking for a trio then. 1 Male and 2 Females :D
But before that, i'll have to get 3 pots, and maybe 1 pice of bogwood, and food.

K, i'll keep that in mind aswell when i go to the lfs.
I was wondering if a pair forms, does the ram left out still hang out with the other two, or does it just stay alone?

I have a pair of 2 males in a 24g. They are great fish, its quit heavily planted in 1 area and i have a cave and some bogwood. They love hiding in the plants mostly.
I have a Bristlenose plec and they all seem to get on fine. Really cool fish and some great colours going on.
