I would like to get a Kuhli Loach, but I already have the following in my tank:

2 x polka dot loach
1 x batik loach
10 x neon tetras
2 x blue rams
3 x Siamese algae eaters
2 x dwarf gouramis
6 x platys
2 x swordtails
4 x guppies
2 x blue rainbowfish

The tank is quite heavily planted and has caves, rocks and wood.

I have the feeling I am at my limit, more or less, but wondered if I could squeeze a Kuhli in there? I have pretty much given up on Clowns after what people have said about their size.

Thanks for any advice....

Irf.

Khuulies are schooling fish, so I don't think you'd ever see it if you did; poor thing would probably be a bit intimidated.

if you can get at least 3 then they wont hide. however i dont have as many fish as you.

i have 3 khulis, for a week, they hid i barely saw them - now their always out and about, playing with each other and they are wonderfully with the other fish - my khulis are also quite tame - they come to see me when i go to the tank :)

i was thinkin bout gettin another yoyo so my other 1 wont be so lonely...but im not quite sure...

Yeah, you're probably right - I should get more than one. Question is: can I fit two or even three into this size tank with current stock levels? None of the fish r particularly big. The biggest is probably the batik loach.

Using the gal=inch rule, I can fit in a bit more, but I don't want to go exactly to the limit and cram fish in!

Any experts around to offer advice on stock?

Thanks,

Irf.

Why would you want to add only two or three? -_- They're something that should be kept in groups of 6, 10, 20... but not any less.

not atall..any more would cramp my tank
my khulis are more than happy together they display the correct natural behaviour - a group of 3 is fine

Errmm...we're are not discussing your tank, we are discussing the posters (Irf's) tank, nobody was telling you to add more khulis, we are telling Irf to add more then 2 or 3.

Irf, I agree with Feeshy, they really do much better in groups at the very minimum of 6. They are very light on the bioload and your tank could easily fit 6-10.

Thanks OohFeeshy and MegTheFish...... that's really helpful. I had no idea that I could do that with what I've got already! Will sort something out this weekend.....

ACTUALLY i was trying to point out that if you havnt the room for 6-10 3 is fine, i was pointing out that i have 3 very happy loaches.

Ok, it sounded like you thought we were directing the "keep more khulis" statement at you, so nevermind. :)

3 may be fine in your case, but that doesn't mean that is how they should be kept. You can keep tetras, danios, whatever, on their own, but evidently, it's never a good idea.

I called my LFS earlier and they have some Kuhlis in stock. The have 15, but I think I'm gonna just go for 6 following the recommendation here..... thanks guys.
