African cichlids correct?

yes, cichlids dont seem to have common names, or at least they are not called by them for some reason!

forgot to add that i have 2 aulounocara jacobfriebergi too which get to 6" each, i thought it would be ok but wanted to make sure,

Thanks/

yeah he will defently fit in there no worries

As long as you have enough filtration you should be ok. How long has the tank been set up?

purely on size of fish and water stats, yeah fine. don't know the agression levels of the african cichlids (and correct me if i'm wrong but i suspect some of the posters above don't either) so can't comment reliably on compatibility.

while most of the time plecs are fine with agressive fish because of the 'armour' if they're too small or the cichlids are too agressive it can still end up messy!!

i have seen other BN kept with africans, the fish now are only about half there max size so it should be fine, I am going to get the biggest possible, and i am getting some more rocks so it should be safe, i shall just have to keep an eye on them.

Thanks.

yes i've seen it done before, but african cichlids can vary in temprement significantly, i would suspect some of the bigger really aggressive ones would not be suitable but some of the smaller somewhat calmer ones would be fine! As I said above, I'm just not familiar with the species exactly so couldn't comment with any certainty.

the biggest indicator of bio load on a tank is the nitrate reading, if you'rs is hovering around 10ppm then you're certainly not working the filters to the max, you're always advised to slightly overcrowd africans to dissipate agression and you've nothing else on the bottom of the tank so should be plenty of space for them and the filters seem to be coping just fine.

:good:

althought, its one tank to another, they can be fine in one tank, but get harrased and attacked in the other. i should think it will be fine, but ensure plenty of hiding places all over the tank so it doesnt get caught short so to speak. also, a plec is not competing for food and swimming space so the cichlids should ignore it.

As you have a tank full of Africans, why not look into getting a variety of Synodontis..?
