i had a major problem in my 10 gal that will ultimatly result iin me completly emptying it and cleaning it well. i was wondering if i could place a filter cartrige in my fully cycled 55 gal that has been up and running for years and let it sit for about a week or so and then put it in my 10 gal.

would that do for cycling? that should add enough benificial bacteria wouldn't it?

i'm new to cycling somewhat as i didn't know about it until after i had my tanks. neither of my tanks have been uncycled since i've put fish in them. I test the water and everything is the same as it's always been nothing spikes everthing is consistent and water changes are preformed regularly.

suggestion are welcome, however keep in mind i'm not a totally new beginner just unsure if this idea will help speed up cycling.

thanks

If you can, just take some of the media (foam etc) out of the 55 and put it in the filter in the 10gal ;)

It will mean you can stock the tank straight away ;) (make sure you do add some fish to produce waste for the bacteria to live on)

I think ur idea would work. To help speed up the process, u could take some gravel from ur established tank and but it into the new tank. People have used that method with the gravel in a stocking placed into the tank.

gravel thing won't work as they are two differnt types.

i was going to insert the filter cartrige in the 55 for a few days to get it good and covered with benifical bacteria then hop for the best.

i recently had a bad case of columanaris (sp?) that wiped out my platie population (6 adults) and have fry in the tank that were born as the adults were dying. i had approx 20 fry but an=m down to 2 left. i have to keep them in that tank till they have been treated for 7 days then i will move their breeding trap into the 55 and get the 10 gal straightened out.

But u could put the gravel in a stocking so the to gravel types wont mix together. Let us know wat u want to do

i thought i was clear when i said i am going to suspend the tank fiter in the 55 for about a week or so then set up the small tank again.

yeah, get the new filter, run it in the existing tank alongisde the existing filter for a fortnight and it'll be mature enough to add fish straigth away

thanks.

i hope i didn't sound rude or mean in my last post i just reread it and noticed it sounded a bit mean.
sorry i wrote it in a hurry and didn't proof read it.
