Hi everyone...Newbie here.... I am in the process of setting up a second 30gallon tank for a single Ceylon Puffer. I currently have a 30gallon Cichlid tank set up. Now, In the Cichlid tank I have a Fluval 4 internal filter running alongside a Hydor10 external canister filter. Can I take the fluval out and put it in the new tank with a couple of the cichlids to cycle the new tank for the Puffer???? If so, how long before I should introduce the Puffer? and is it advisable to leave the Puffer in FW until it is adult and then gradually cross over to BW...The puffer is currently in a FW set up at the fish store....any help would ne most appreciated ...thx :)

Yes you would be best to just leave the puffer in fresh water for now, but don't wait too long to bring the salinity up. The best method for doing this is to raise it slowly by only a point or two each week or so. I can't go into detail right now but I'm sure that someone else will come along right after me and give you the step-by-step. The other thing is that if the cichid tank is cycled you can just take the filter out of it and plunk it straight into the new puffer tank, no need to put cichlids in because the nitrogen fixing bacteria will already be in the filter from your other tank.

Good Luck
