Hi there,

I have 3 pieces of driftwood for my tank being over zealous in purchasing I can only fit 2 (to make it look ok maybe even 1) I will never purchase through a LFS where they just order again but want to know if I can can cut it or a piece to fit? I know it will release a fresh lot of tannins but can I safely do it? i have a piece with a great shape except for a big bulbous piece on the end the end I want to bury. I cant for the life of me work our where I want the other to go I have an awesome piece that is lite a stump with roots split vertically in half in the shape of an upside down t but not sure what to do with it.

Regards Darren

Well I am not an expert but I cut a large piece off mine and a month later everything seems OK.

Yes you can cut it tannins wont hurt your fish and will clear after a while but if it from a lfs I doubt it will have anymore tannin in it. :fish:

Hi and thanks and this stuff still had loads of tannins in it, I boiled it for 2 days and the water was still coming out like coke a cola lol

I cut my piece with a wood saw, just rinse it afterwards so you don't get saw dust in the tank!

Yes, why wouldn't you be able to?
The only thing would be tannin release, but lets face it that's no problem considering you already have Coke water. :p

lol yeah no coke water in the tank trying to soak as much out as i can before getting coke tank lol

how often have you been changing the water?
I had to change mine every day 100% for at least 2 weeks, I gave up in the end and just used purigen to soak it up so you could well be fighting a losing battle.

Hi ,

been changing it 100% every day for a month now and you are right I think purigen is the go :)
