Can I change gravel?

Yes you can. Popular practice at thisforum is moving the gravel in one lump sum. Supposefly the bacteria in the filter media can dreate cultures in the new gravel in a matter of days.

Good thing you're steering away from bright colors. I too prefer natural colors.

well, I'm not sure that I'm gonna go too natural, I've been eyeing the black and white ones. I saw them at the store and looked great in a tank I saw.

Did it have plants in it? You might want to see it with planst and any decorations you plan on getting. Your lights will affect the appearance as well, of course.

I, personally, don't like the black and white gravel I have, but that's just me.

Just make sure the gravel doesn't detract from your fish or displease you or the fish and you should be fine. :D

Well, maybe it won't be a good idea. I have otos, zebra danios, and the cories with the green spot by the shoulder, so I may lose them in the gravel :p

Yup, dark gravel brings out dark colors in the fish because they try to blend into their surroundings.

Since you have cories, you might also want to consider sand...

white gravel isnt really advisable cos it can wash out teh colours of the fish, also makes them feel less secure. show the dirt aswell ;)

if you're going to the trouble of changing it, you might as well go for sand, your cories will thank you for it :) you can get black sand too.

i have tiny black gravel and in it there are a few differnt colours like red blue green orange purple.... but the colours look like theyve just been scattered amongst the black.. its really nice

Definitely go for sand  Just as easy to clean as gravel and looks great! It only won't work if you have an UGF.

I have white specks in my gravel because ammo chips flew out of my filter  Looks good though actually  (I don't have ammonia problems BTW :p )
