You could indeed add rams, Im not up on butterfly rams but I assume they have the same requirements as normal GBR's, good water quality, low nitrAtes, good food and you shouldnt have a problem, some people find them to be very sensitive, but if you keep to a good water change routine, feed varied foods, flakes, pellets, live an frozen, you should be fine.

You could have 2 pairs in a 180 but I wouldnt go for anymore, they will enjoy all those plants and caves you already have :good:

i'll be going for 1 pair first depends what the lfs has in stock when the platys have gone to which is added first then i'll see how they settle in :)

cheers Sarahx

Unless you got a known pair, you might be best off getting about 6 to start with and letting them pair off naturally and then returning or rehoming the remaining rams, they can be picky about partners and this way you should get at least one breeding pair.

might get 2 pair out of the 6 :) - glass is always half full type of gal lol

With rams it seems like any random male will pair with any random female. They are not very selective. If you get one and one they will likely pair. That has been my experience at least.

thanks Jim , i'll see what they have in stock

better pics added

also i would like to know which ones people recommend
are the butterfly ones better than the germans or visa versa or is there not really any difference

german blue in my opinion are the better looking of the two, they are very colourful and beautiful, fish, they will relish your beautiful scape, and if fed a varied mainly meaty diet they will be fine, your water should be better for them because its soft, where as mine is as hard as a brick but i have no problems

thanks truck thats good to know ;)

I have both german blue and bolivian ram but I personally like Bolivian better. They have more red/pink color and they seem to be a little bigger and more friendly.

IF you go with German Blues they are easy to sex, you may already know but females have red bellies males dont.
