OK, here is what I have in my 55 gallon:

55 gallon - aquaclear 110 filter, sand - 7 platy, 3 spotted raphael catfish(4"), 6 rainbow madagascar(2.5"), 1 common pleco (5"), 1 bamboo shrimp, 3 whiteskirt tetra

So, there are already quite a few bottom dwellers. Can I add my 3" BN plec to this mix? There are enough hiding places for everyone, and I am not concerned about the bioload too much. My main concern would be the common plec and the BN plec in the same tank. Do you think there would be aggression between them?

Right now the BN is in a 10 gallon with a bunch of small platy's. I don't want to stunt his growth in the 10 gallon. That 10 gallon is overstocked, forcing me to do large water changes at least once per week to keep nitrates under control. Also, I would like to rehome the platys (the ones currently in my 10 gallon) so my 10 gallon can be a quarentine tank for some neon tetras who look like they have NTD.

Yeah i would add him , the common pleco will get too big for your tank. Seems like a nice mix of fish.
Good luck!!!

OK, thx. I'll move the BN then.

About the commone plec: yeah, like many, I got the common plec early on. I actually have 2 of them, one in a 29 gallon. I figure 8-9 inches is the MAX size for a plec in a 55, and 7-8 inches is the MAX for a 29. I'll probably have to start looking seriously for a 6 foot tank next year.
