Can I Add More Fish?

i have a 29 gallon with


8 tiger babrs (4 regular , 2 green , 2 silverblue)
2 cobalt blue gouramis (dwarf)
1 red tailed black shark


the barbs rite now are around 1.75 - 2 inches long

gouramis about 2.2 inches

rtbs about 2 inches



i wanna add 1 more albino tiger barb

and possibly a pleco


any ideas?

i dont think i need a pleco because my rtbs acts as if it was 1 it cleans the glasss, and almost everything on the bottom...

wat can i get?

IMO...Well if you go by adult size (not your current size) and use the fish inches rule of 1 inch per gallon you have 37 inches in a 29 gallon tank with the fish you currently have (based on 3 inches for the barbs, 4 for the gouramis and 5 for the shark) so I don't know how wise it would be to add any more (Assuming the adult sizes are correct)

I have to agree... at the very least I'd wait a few months and see how things go. Then if they all are doing good and you're keeping up on the vacs and changes, maybe you can add something else. I'm not a "by the rules" kind of person... I think that if you watch your fish, they'll let you know ihow things are.

I'm not a "by the rules" kind of person... I think that if you watch your fish, they'll let you know ihow things are.

LOL...That's why I did not really say yes or no...I have had several surprises with fish in the last 6 months (not all of them good) so you never really know even though some things make more sense then others.

What is the dimentions of your tank? What filteration have you got? Then we can determin how many inches of fish can go in your tank.

btw my tank has real and fake plants.....

i guees i just see my friends tank he has

a jack dempsey a parrot
a lil yellow chichlid

and 2 bigger chichlids about 8 inches each

and a bunch of other chichlids in a 29 gallon

its horrid... one day his tank was crystal clear

i went back a week later i couldnt see the other side of the tank #### was mad merky
i feel bad for his fish cus he got very nice fish

so i figure i can add a few smaller fish that grow to about 2 inches each

get about like 3 cherry barbs n seal the deal

Oh don't worry yourself Qays I have already been properly whipped for that. Right now I do not have any immediate plans to move Goldie since I do not have the room and he is not going into my 30 gallon tank. I have made as much room as possible for him in the tank as I can and it is fully cycled with numbers at 0, 0, 20. I started out with no knowledge and bought way to many fish in way to small of a tank with a poor mix of fish and the poor fish paid the price. Goldie and one Platy are the only survivors of my lack of knowldege. Hopefully I will be able to do something better for him after the summer.

We've all been there! Or atleast I have! I think it's better to start slowly, and build on your group as you learn.

Exactly what I am doing now with my daughter's 30 gallon. Right now fighting ich that took out 2 Black Phantoms . Once I get that under control with temp, meds and water changes I will wait a few weeks before looking for more. I think the next round will be 2 Cherry Barbs and 2 Harliquins (try to get them in a nice little pack) and go from there. Sadly I think I have MTD and I am thinking about a tank for the living room

I put 2 goldfish in a 3 gallon once, i just returned them to the lfs who were happy to take back healthy fish.

No probs...some times it is hard to tell "tone of voice" on a board. He has been in that tank since December and seems pretty content now that all the other pesky fish are gone and the levels are good. At one point it 8ppm Amonia but now it is perfect. I know it's not the ideal situation but it beats flushing him down the bowl (no I wouldn't do that to a live fish )

When I was 11 I won a goldfish from the fair. I had him in a gallon bowl for almost 2 years. I changed the water completely about once every 3 weeks. There was nothing in it either... just him. No gravel, no plant. Nothing. He finally died. Poor Sammy!!!
