Yep I had my second batch today. After the first lot which I am raising in the breeder net. I decided to let 'survival of the fittest' decide further fry's fate. Anyway this morning there is a second lot hanging aroung the breeder net. Looks like they are staying near the first lot. I was wondering if they can find food up there or will they eventually die? or get eaten?

No they need lique fry no 2 of something as you drop drops into the water and they will swim around eating but you just cant see this process goes on for about 6 weeks then they wil eat normally. It would be best to separate fry from the other fish.

Hi, I use Tetra Min Baby Powder food for my guppy and endler fry,it is readily accepted from a few days old and they grow well on it. I like to see whether they are eating or not so I dont use the liquifry. If you have lots of plants they will do fine on the infusoria (sp?) for a day or two.

If you put food in the tank for the other fish, chances are they will be eating some. They aren't totally stupid. :p They'll figure it out. If you have live plants in your tank, they can survive off the yummy little buggies on them for a loooong time. So I'm sure they are eating somehow. You are doing survival of the fittest anyway.....

But yes, they might get eaten if you have fish big enough to eat them. :/

I do both those options and have several floating plants which the young hide in. The real predator of the tank, the angel, will hunt for them but can't reach them in many places due to their shape and size. And fry are fast! And yes, they can survive without specialised fry food. You'd be amazed at how adaptable they can be. Although I do now use fry food for mine. After all, they don't have breeders nets and extra special food supplied to them in the wild eh. ;)
Hugs,
P.

Yes apart from the ones in the breeder net. I am doing survival of the fittest. (strange thing is last time I looked there was the original 3 fry in the net. Now there are about 7!!! Hmmm have to explain S.O.T.F. to my girlfriend...) Anyway. I feel a bit sorry for the new fry hanging around outside the breeder net. But thats life...They only seem to do it when the lights are on though...When its dark they all scatter and hide in the gravel and plants...funny little things..
