Can Fish Tell The Difference?

I wonder if fish can tell when a plant is fake or real because some of my fish nip at the fake plants and my one real one while the others only nip at the real one. And if they know they are fake then are they stressed ? and do they feel secure?

I don't think they can tell the difference as I don't think that they care too much. All they care is that they have cover.

As qwikimpss said, they are probably more concerned about the practical cover it gives them rather than if it's real or fake, unless of course they're a plant eating variety of fish who'd love real plants to munch on.

but either way fish will pick microorganisms off of the surface of plants, live or fake.
