As the title says, Can fish choke ?

as in get food stuck in throut,

Im asking this as I fed my sajicas some de shelled peas tonight and they love it, i did cut the pea inside smaller but one took a really big peice so wondered if they could possible choke

Yes they can, if something lodged in the mouth and the fish cannot get rid of it, wet a clean cloth in tank water, wrap the fish in the cloth, sterlise some tweezers before you remove the fish, then remove the objects, try not to keep the fish out of the tank to long.

oooo no,

You would see then flicking thier gills to try and get it out right ?

Well I suppose the best thing to do it give small peices of what ever food, and make sure its soft.

Ok, thanks !

Fish have grinders at the back of the throat and some fish will stay still and just chew. If the fish becomes distressed either by shaking the head or *coughing* then you may need to act.

Sometimes they can also have a bit of food come out their gill, and this can damage the gills and even cause death. I've lost a couple of betta fry like this, choking on bloodworms/brine shrimp.
