Can aquariums make us sick?

I'm a farly new aquarium owner, and I remember getting sick (just cold-type stuff) after setting up my tank. I'm just wondering if the aquarium has made anyone sick. I'm an elementary teacher, so I'm exposed to lots of stuff and rarely get sick. Just wondering if I'm building immunity to the aquarium world.

We can't be alergic to it can we?

Any thoughts?

I've heard that too much pollution be it noise, smell, particulates, and even excess humidity can be bad for people who aren't used to it. Do you happen to have a fish tank, or several, in your bedroom?

If so, the best solution would be, if possible, is to well-ventilate this/these rooms, or even leave the window/s open.

Well I supose if u had the whole tank of water over u and u walked into a frezer then yes but never heard of just having a tank making some1 ill. Unless ur fish had TB of HIV of some human desease. ur cold like symptoms could just be nothing but a cold. I've had fish for about 4years and no problem caused directly by my tank. Unless u do something stupidd like drink water while ur fish have TB, it's v unlikely to get any serious health porblems.

You can get diseases from tank water by sticking an open wound into it

But I doubt many people do this. The cold was probably jsut a coincidence.

You mean I'm not supposed to drink directly from the tank?

Oh Dear...

No I was just referring to the type of bacteria that is produced in the tank. We use nets and even get our hands in the water. Of course we wash our hands but I was just wondering. PT, am I the first one to stump you??

I think there are several fish diseases that people can get, but it is pretty unlikely that a cold would come from your fish tanks. Its probably more likely to get sick from eating at a restraunt, or using a bank machine than it is to get something from an aquarium. Unless your drinking the water that is, or not washing your hands, and then sticking them in your mouth.
