I have had a golden algae eater disappear recently. I don't know what happened. I am almost certain it did not take a trip out of the tank. Is it possible that they can be eaten by a betta or another golden algae eater? I had two in the tank, and the one is huge now, but my betta keeps harassing it and won't leave it alone. See my thread in "bettas" for more details.

Edit: actually, first of all: I'd like to check something: do you in fact have a Golden Algae Eater (or know as a CAE) or do you have OTTO'S in you 10 gallon ?

Well having had two is possibly the reason you only have one now. They are hugely territorial in two's and the one would have almost certainly killed the other. A dead fish can the easily be eaten by any other (or group) of fish in the tank, with no signs of body or carcass by the morning.#

Which tanks did you have them in - and in which tank (in your sig) is the remaining one ? They are all far far too small for a CAE :/
If it's in the 10 gallon, I'd rehome the remaining CAE asap !

Check out your thread in the betta section, i hope i have given you an idea on how bad CAE's can be, it is most likely the other CAE ate it as they cannot tolerate their own kind for long due t their terotorial behavior and despite being primarily vegetarians, they quickly consume any tank mates that die. Either the CAE jumped out of the tank, or more likely its buddy ate it...

I'm going to take him out, but I can't catch him, he's too fast. Any ideas?

Nevermind got him. Will my LFS take him?

You'll have to ask your lfs wether or not they take fish in, otherwise you can put an add up in your local paper or simply buy him his own tank.
