Thanx Claire x :*

they look to me to both be males (I'm no cichlid expert)

Wolf is right, Both Males.
Sorry if this is bad news to you.
But if looking a for a female,
Females are always lighter in colour and also look for the end of their dorsal fin(back fin) if the end is rounded, it is a female.
Both your rams apear to be rich in colour and have sharp/extended dorsal fins, so are therfor males

The 2nd Ram in the picture is actually very pale in colour, i would say more pastel, than the other one which is vibrant in colour, but i thought they maybe both males.... Im not dissapointed though... they get on fine....

i was actually just about to buy two bolivian rams, but i wasnt sure if them both being males would be an issue. would two males be ok in the same tank, or would they fight for dominance all the time?

^ i have one male, and added a female... and he bullied her like crazy at first. then i bagged him and re-introduced him to tank - TWICE - and now they co-exist, but he chases her sometimes still. in a few weeks i think i'll be moving her to a different tank. i wouldn't try two of any gender together again personally unless you have another tank to move one to if they do fight. and it's quite likely they will :\

i have two males in my 50 gallon community and they swim next to each other, but i bought them together and believe them to be from the same spawn so they might have gotten used to each other.

I bought 2 males for my 20 gallon last year and had to give them away as one male had taken over 90% of the tank and bullied all the other fish to one corner.

snowyangel here housed them in her 55 gallons and they were foing better, but the bully was still a bully.

It really depends on the individual fish!

thanks for the reply. i ended up going with the one bolivian ram for now, and if a female comes along maybe i'll get her too.
