The Fluval + range are good, just updated versions of yours. I run 2 +2's in my 20gal and 1 +3 and 1 +2 in my 55gal. More than i need in both but i like to overfilter.

I have a fluval +4 and its good, I just prefer the externals as they cause less turmoil when cleaning. Cleaning an external does not affect the tank in any way, just taking an internal out messes up the tank.

Fluval old style vs Fluval + = Fluval + much better, as you can add filter floss or carbon when needed, but if you can, get an external, the fluval #04's are good as are the Eheim Ecco's.

I agree with the point about removing an internal filter can mess up the tank. However i just put a jug under mine so that as i remove the filter, the excess waste goes in the jug not the tank. A very good tip i got here on the forum a while ago.

Yep, good tip, though still not as good as when using an external :p

I must admit, i'm getting a new tank soon and i'm going to go with an Eheim pro external.

go with the fluval 4 plus if u want internal and if not, go for a canister such as an ehiem or a fluval

thanks guys, got up this morning and all my fish were gasping at the top, the filter wasn't working for some reason i think it's the plants so i moved it to the front of the tank where no plants are. i'm off to buy a new one today will let you know what i get ;)

I would recommend the Eheim Canister Pro II.
Check them out at www.eheim.com
They are quiet, Simple, and easy to clean, But a little Expensive.
Hope this Helps, Thanks,
