I seem to have acquired a neighbours fish tank (they went on holiday, didn't come back).
In it is one cichlid (thatmuch at least I recognise!) and about 8 other fish.
Can anyone identify them and the cichlid please?

And are they ok kept together?

The blue mbuna cichlid is a Male auratus
I think you may also have some tropheus species in there as well, but whatever they are they look to be in a bad condition,

I think the 3rd and 4th pics are some kind of melanochromis species although I don't think they're the traditional auratus. The males of those stay more yellow/brown(i thought). Maybe we'll have to wait for Ferris or dthoffsett or darrell.

I'm looking through my Back to Nature Guide to Malawi Cichlids By Ad Konings

I think I got it now...Melanochromis Chipokae?

Ah it works now...

I agree with Kj.. the two bottom fish look like male Melanochromis Chipokae.. v.aggressive fish!!

The two top fish im not sure on.. i dont even think they're African's but possibly American cichlids. Id post in the American section HERE for ID's.

Also, Davo86 is right, they dont look in great condition.. but it dont suprise me with the aggressive nature of the male Melanochromis Chipokae.. i think it'd be best to seperate them. :good:
