I have snails, cortesy of them hitching a ride on some plants from my LFS.

Glad to see they keep their tanks nice & tidy & that they were mindful enough to tell me that I might get snails. Anyway, I have them now & are gradually taking over the tank (there must be at least 10 of these tiddlers in my tank after having just spotted the one about 2 weeks ago).

I think they are all the same spieces:

This is the original largest one (about 8mm long):

and this is a new baby I guess (about 4mm long):

Can anyone put a name to these little critters, and will they start munching my plants?

Cheers,

Andy

They look like common pond snails.
They wont harm your plants, but they do breed like crazy.

Take a few out when you can see them - they'll lay eggs everywhere and they're hard to find.

I think it looks more like the "Bladder/Tadpole/Pouch Snails - Family Physidae"

Anything worthy of note with regards having this as a tank mate?

I had those exact same snails in one of my tanks, and being the person that I am I thought "I don't want to kill them, and they're SO cute!" So I left em in. They bred soo much that my little shark died, and they crawled all over one of my fiddler crabs, and he died. I don't know for sure if it was the snails that killed them, but I wasn't gonna take any chances with my other fish. So I did a complete water change (used Cycle to readd the good bacteria), and got new gravel, boiled all the rocks and decorations I had in there, and all of my other fish are fine. Now everytime I see a snail, I'm taking it out IMMEDIATELY!!!
