Can Anyone Help Me Sex These Blue Rams?

the pictures are pretty hard to tell, but Im going to say the second one looks like a female. cant really tell with the first picture. They are pretty easy though to sex. The BEST way to tell is if on the black spot on its size, if it has blue flecks IN the black spot, it will be a female. If it dosnt, its a male. some females dont have the pink belly's so that is the most accurate way to tell.

Cheers,

I would say that second pic is deffintely a female.

the first one is alot duller in colour as you can tell , and if you look up close it s black spot is covered in blue speckles!

why would it be alot duller ??

the second one that you have identified as a female keeps chasing the other one, the minute it sees it anyone know why this would be and know how i could help this matter??

thanks

Info such as tank mates and tank size would be helpfull for others to answer your question. Me being a fish noob would just say "because it's a cichlid" lol. I have a 20gl with 1 demasoni, 1 yellow lab, 1 red zebra and a Kenyi... and they chase each other. Had them set up like that for about 2 weeks now and no one has fin damage. Soon they will reside in a 55gl-60gl.

In that case they are both females. What is happening is that they are establishing dominance. The duller one is the lower on the pecking order. My advise is to remove her and get a male. At that young age, your best bet if you cant tell who is who at the LFS, just get two more so that you you have a good chance of getting a male. Then afterwards, return the other female, but only do this if you have space in the tank!

Look at their dorsal fins. The first two spines are longer on the male. Males also show more color and grow larger. Females are stockier, plumper, and have blue spangles in that black blotch. Females also get a faint pink blush on their bellies at spawning time.
