Can A Betta Female Be Carrying Too Many Eggs?

I have had bettas for 2 weeks. I am ashamed to say I took them up a little hastily. I now have:
1 male betta in 1/2 gallon bowl with a little gravel and a small plastic plant
2 females in 2separate 1/2 gallon bowls set up the same way as the male's.

I assumed they would be happy set up this way compared to how they must have felt in those little cups at the store, but I've done a little research now and I am a little worried. Will they be okay as long as I keep the bowls really clean? Should I change the water more than once a week? One of the females is really full of what I think are eggs. She is very pale in color so I can see them. I looked up pictures of what female bettas that are full of eggs look like and I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. Can being full of too many eggs make her uncomfortable? Sometimes she swims funny. It's a kind of wriggling motion, like a snake.

To be honest - I havent got a clue. I would suggest posting this in the BETTA section of the forums. :good:

my girls get real eggy when they can see a male betta! Tarts....so they are on another work surface in my kitchen so they dont get too excited.....I have one that looks eggy all the while but she also has sb issues.

A 1/2 gallon is fine but you may have to change the water twice a week. It really depends on how much you feed them and how much waste they're producing.

sadly yes it can...
My first spawn attempt everything went fine til the female was too fat to be wrapped... sadly that was my first n last spawn attemp

Thank you everyone for your help. I promise to be good about water changes. Unfortunately she seems to have developed some other problems, but I started a new topic about it because this is an entirely different issue. Is that right? If it's the same fish, but a completely different problem am I supposed to start a new topic?

-thanks

Thanks for the information. My betta has now developed some little white stringy things that are sticking to her sides with one little piece on her head and one on her chin. I think it might be columnaris. I went ahead and did a water change and added a little salt. I don't know if I'll be able to find many kinds of fish medicine in this town but I'm going to try.
