Okay I came back last Sunday from a week away on holiday and to my shock I found my female dwarf gourami dead (not much of her left as the butterfly fish had been snacking), on closer inspection I saw that most of my fish had ich/white spot. I promptly popped out and bought the best ich medication my LFS had. Its called eSFa EXIT as recommended by them.

I have religiously dosed as stated on the bottle but 6 days in and I'm still losing fish daily. I upped the temp to 28 deg to speed up the parasites cycle and that didn't help. Can anyone suggest a better medication, as I don't have much faith in this one now!

Also is there a problem in switching between meds ?

Tested water last night was:
Ammonia (NH3) = 0
Nitrite (N02-) = 0
Nitrate (NO3-) = les than 5
PH = 7.0

Also pulled the spray bar above the water surface to increase oxygen levels, the fish aren't gasping for air but are breathing quickly. I cant use salt as I have 6 ottos.

Thanks All

Normaly it doesn't matter how good your treatment is, it could just be a bad strain of Ich. Keep the dosage going and try to find somewhere to put the ottos so you can add salt.

did anyone have access to the tank while you were away? ive heard good things about that EXIT stuff. while the fish have ich i would suspect something else and the ich being a side illness thats taken the opportunity of infecting the fish while it was ill. your test results show a well cycled tank. any other tell tale signs? it could be internal parasites? when away i assume they didnt get fed (this is what i would have done) or did you use one of those dodgy pyramid feeding blocks?

They were fed using an automatic fish feeder, I didn't want to leave them unfed as I feared the two African Butterfly Fish might go hunting if they got hungry.

No one had access to the tank, and I have no other tank to put the Otto’s in :(

The worst infected fish now are the Pentazona Barbs (all the tetras are now dead except two rummy nose).
The barbs gills are visibly very red (internally),
Some of the fish’s fins have more a white blanket rather than spots covering them.
Before the tetras died they were shaking in the corners of the tank.
Some of the more infected have lost interest in their food.
The two ABF seem unaffected.

I recently had a bought of Ich that I used Interpets White Spot plus and it just refused to budge. I ended up getting rid of it by upping the water temperature to 30.5C. The temperature has to be raised over a few days otherwise you'll lose fish and an air stone run in it because of the lack of oxygen. But over 30C the Ich can't complete it's life cycle apparently. But noticed your at 28C already, so not much of an increase.

i would recomend King British WS3. its top notch stuff and rid my tank in 2 treatments without any temp increase....

Thanks Spooky just bought some, ill see how it goes lost all my tetras now
