how fast does a calvus (or maybe a compressiceps) grow? mine is in a 55 gallon tank. technically its a NW tank but this altolamp has been in a pet store for a while. my ph is high (like 8.5.). i bought this guy at about half an inch and in a month hes grown maybe 1 and 1/4 inches and still growin strong. i know the ph is high but hes been in 8.6 at the store. i thought i heard they grow slow so i wanted to ask if having one grow like this is normal. im not sure if hes a calvus or comp yet. hjes too small to tell.

also the other fish in my 55 arent growing too well. my bichir has grown maybe an inch in about 3 months and my rainbow has only gotten about 3.5-4 inches and then stopped his growing. what im most worried about his my pictus's. they are around 4 inches but FAT. ive had them since last february but theyve only grown maybe an inch. im wondering if its my ph? im feeding them frozen brine shrimp, frozen beef heart, live tuffies 2-3 times a month and also lettuce, flakefood, shrimp pellets, and catfish pellets. is there any reason why they wouldnt be growing? i have 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate, and 0 ammonia so i dont know what might be wrong.

It would take 3-5 years for a calvus and the compressiceps species to reach full size and they grow quite big up to 7". I have a couple of black calvus that triple in size within a couple of months, but when they reach around 4-5" the growth rate slows down a lot....hope that helps....
