My tank is running absolutely fine but I have notice that for the last few months my calcium level has been really high..... the last reading using Salifert calcium kit was 620ppm. Nothing in the tank seems to be bothered by it and the dKh is stable around 9 with pH 8.2. Everytime I supplement the alk I get a really nice snow effect because of the precipitating Calcium carbonate and nothing really changes. How should I get it down to normal (ideally 380-420)? I might not bother changing it because everything is florishing so nicely but it is nice to know.

Many thanks

Well, high calcium really isn't that big a deal so I'd be inclined to just leave it be. Are you dosing any calcium suppliments? If so, obviously I'd back off or stop completely.

However, are you sure you're using the salifert test kit properly? Its very important that you use a LEVEL spoon in the first step. If you use a rounded or "heaping" spoonful you can easily get a false positive.

I have meticulously followed the instructions to the full stop; a LEVEL SPOON everytime no more no less. Not dosing with anything but the dKh suppliment Seachem Reef carbonate. I am not worried but just interested. I have 5-6 new polyps developing on my hammer coral which is really nice.

Thanks for the reply

Regards
