hi
does anyone know if i was to put calcium reactor media into an external filter whether it would work on the same basis as a calcium reactor(although obviously not as well).

I'm no expert on marine hardware but I'd assume that the water needs to be slightly acidic to dissolve the calcium based media - hence the CO2 use injection in CO2-run calcium reactors.

You could use it as a container but that's about it. The effluent produced by these is supposed to be controlled with a ph meter through an auto-top-up system and drip fed into a high flow part of the sump(best place is where water enters sump from main tank). Without the proper control the PH will drop like nobodys business killing everything in site, possibly even your live rock.

If you used the external filter in it's normal mode you would probably end up with a tank of battery acid.!!!
