i woke up this morning and when i looked at cadence, she has a small white patch on her. it doesn't look fuzzy and in the right light, it almost looks like a scar as it turns a light blue (she's dark blue/green depending on the light - is a scar possible? i got three new girls last night that are in with her. its a community so there ARE other fish in there). i dont think it's from the new girls as it wouldnt have come on in less than 12 hours, would it?
she's not flicking or rubbing.

a good picture is impossible, but i'll try to get a decent one. my phone's too dark to get one and my camera doesn't like taking pictures of the girls.

any ideas what this could be? should i treat for ich just to be safe?

I've just posted pretty much the same thing about Drave! I'm going to be treating him, he isn't rubbing or flicking either but the more I look at it the more it looks like it doesn't belong there, so I am treating him.

i'd really like to know what to do. i've never had ich in any of my aquariums before (since i was a little kid).

my mom had mollies with ich before and she said what cadence had looked more like one of the new girls nipped her, not the ich that she had seen (her mollies were black) so i dont know.
is it safer just to treat it to be safe? or would that be harmful and should i just quarrintine (sp) her?

i think quarantineing her just incase would be best
would it still be benificial to treat it? i dont want to not treat it and then half the fish die because it was ich.
it won't harm them to treat the tank for ich even after i quarantine her, would it?

it shouldn't as long as you get the dosage right
i'm just not going to read the directions

now on the thing that the ich treatment is in, it says that ich looks like "white, sugary crystals" and cadence's "patch" doesnt look like that at all...

i have tried. on my phone it's too dark, she looks like a black fish and you cant see anything. on my camera, if it's on "sport mode" where it takes the pictures quickly, once again, it's too dark and on regular mode, either the flash covers her up or its blurry

stupid electronics.
i'll try again later.

Tropical - I'm not really qualified to diagnose - but my guess is that it's a fungus on top of a wound. Ich looks like sugar or salt stuck to them. Flex (columnaris) looks wet and fuzzy. If it looks like a scar - perhaps she scraped herself somewhere and it didn't heal right.

You're a member of FnF... why don't you pop on there and ask the experts! They've never steered me wrong! Good luck!

the thing is, it wasn't there last night (i check them right before i go to bed, last night i think that was about 10:30-11) but when i woke up this morning it was. when i was just checking her after coming home from the barn, it looks smaller

crazy fish
edit: is just looks like her coloring on that part of her turned white, there's nothing fuzzy nor crystal-like.

ughhhhhhhhhh

it looks like my girlie may have dropsy. her scales are sticking out - but just the ones around where her white speck was. she's now in (the only thing i had) a one gallon water cooler  .

if it is dropsy, how do i treat my 10 gallon (where she was) for it? can i treat for both ich and dropsy just to be safe(after a water change for treating for one)?

TMX - I'm not sure - pop over to FnF and see what the fish doctors have to say! They're always good at diagnosing and offering good treatment advice. Good luck with Cadence!!

well we tried cutting a hole in the bottom/top of the water cooler thing (the ones that you press the button and the water comes out of the bottom - no worries, it was sealed off) and now the part that has the caps on it leaks -shakes head- just my luck.

she's in one of the cups that they come in until we seal off the cap so it can't leak. i'm guessing its better to keep her in there and do very frequent water changes until i know if she's better than risk her getting chewed up and infecting all the other fish?

shadow's getting an upgrade fairly soon so i can always move her into his current tank once he's out. she liked being on her own in the water cooler thing and she doesnt mind being in the smaller thing but she does prefer the bigger things. i think i'll just keep her on her own from now on (in something bigger of course).

she looks better now, her scales arent sticking up. she was a little bloated so maybe the bloating caused this?

i also noticed when i put the new girlies in the 10 gallon that she's alot smaller than they are. i've had her for a while now and i assumed she'd grow to be the same size as my other and the (now not-so) new girls, but she's still alot smaller. should i be concerned about this, too?
