Not too long ago I got some cabomba I had ordered off the net.
I didn't think the stuff would do too well in my tank b/c I read that they're not very easy to take care of, but thought "WTH" and got some anyway b/c I liked the way it looked.

WELL... they've been doing great so fr and have grown quite a bit.
What I would like to know is if I allow the cabomba to flower... will this shorten the lifespan of the plant?

Also... the cabomba on one side of a divided tank has only been growing up, while the other sides cabomba have been getting roots all over the place.
Would it still be ok to snip down and replant the cuttings if they don't have those roots?

yup, thats what i did, and they all grew fine, just the ones with the roots grow better, u can let the parts without roots float at the top of ur tank and then plant them when they develop roots.

I've just re-arranged the caboma in my tank and good grief, the sheer mass that came out! It grows like you wouldnt believe! Unfortunatly I don't know about the flowering, my first guess is you would be hard pressed to actually get it to flower. Just because it hits the surface might not satisfy all its requirements for flowering. I would suspect that outside it expects to hit the top and get the full burst of sun, which together with the specific photoperiod of its flowering season would stimulate the flowering. Most people (me included) find it just gets to the top and then bends over and keeps growing.

ANYWAY (I ramble alot... sorry!)

IF it DID flower, you could let a bit of it flower, but take cuttings from other stems and replant them. Then you would get new plants and still have some flowering.

Good Luck, and make sure you get a pic if it flowers!

Lol I doubt they'll flower.. it was more of a "whatif" question heh. But I definitely will take pics if by some slim chance they do! :D
And thanks for the info!
