I have a 300 litre tank which has some bunches of thriving Cabomba - I have since transferred a bunch of Cabomba into a much smaller 60 litre tank (only plant in the tank) with Platy fry and after a week or so a strange brown meshy fibre like stuff! has appeared from several stems and continues to grow larger.

This phenomenon if I can call it that! has never appeared in any of my Cabomba in my larger tank. I do not know whether this plant is struggling or whether this is normal - both tanks have much the same water as I have transferred 50% from the larger tank previously. The larger tank water is around 3 month old and the smaller tank two - any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

sounds like algae maybe, does it come off?

is it a part of the plant?

Hi, yes it does come off though not too easily. I have previously pulled a large clump off, but it continues to grow elsewhere on the plant and back again from where I originally pulled the large clump from. Strangely my large tank has a fair amount of algae, more so than the smaller tank, yet this has had no bearing on the Cabomba? I have since bought some wild Bristlenose plecs today for the larger tank which will control future algae.

The brown fibre like substance looks so unsightly - a mystery.
