Hi there

i've had great live plants in my tanks in the past and never had c02 i just always have good lighting , good mature filters , plenty of surface movement , some air stones , plenty of algae eaters and marimo moss balls and dont seem to get any algae problems and have had flourishing plants

Ok call me dumb but should i actually have co2 cos i dont think i could afford it and definately wouldn't want the canisters around with the kids

cheers Sarah xx (being pain in the bum again)

now i am new to plants, but all plants us co2. we breathe out co2 and plants 'breath' in co2 and out oxygen. im not nowhere near an expert but the majority of the plant is co2 i think and without their being any co2 for them to breath in how are they going to grow? some plants dont need co2 inject, but some do

the plant sint CO2, but rather carbon ©, they take in CO2, use the carbon then give off the O2 (oxygen) this is called pearling.

always have good lighting

you say good lighting, is this good lighitng for low light plants, or high light plants? i presume the 1st otherwise you would of ended up with an algae field (dont say the algae eaters ate it!)

also airstones and excessive surface agitation drives off what little CO2 you will have dissolved in the tank, so i would turn them off.

If your plnts are fine then dont add it, adding it will help but at the moment it isnt a necessity.

Thanks hun :)

dont think i will add it dont really want the canisters in the flat with the kids :)

if you really wanted, you could make your own co2 system. that's what i do.

Sarah - The simple answer to your question is if you don't have any problems without CO2 at the moment the why add something that isnt needed at the moment.

You do have some algae in your tank though!!!! Marimo moss balls are not moss but infact rolled balls of algae. lol
