Turn the Co2 on in the morning when the lights turn on.

Then turn the Co2 off about 2-3 hours before the lights go off at night, just because photosynthesis will slow down near the end of the day and the plants will use less light and Co2 in a response.

Do not have Co2 on during the night, as there is no light, and with no light and a lot of Co2, your plants will not grow that well, and algae will most likely show up. Plus you could run a risk of over-dosing of Co2 at night, and you will not be able to catch it until the morning.

High amounts of Co2=Bad for fish.

That doesn't make sense at all.
Plants will indeed respire at night, where they take in O2 and lose CO2 however that doesn't mean that the plants won't grow well. Plants need a night time so they can respire as this is important to the plants health. Also, you wouldn't get algae because algae needs two things, ammonia and light. The plants aren't going to be breaking down and leaching ammonia at night.

Myself and others haven't had problems running CO2 24/7. It is recommended to have a slight ripple on the surface for good gas exchange, this usually prevents build up of CO2 over night and incorportes O2 into the tank (plants have been doing that all day too). There are folks tat turn CO2 off at night but turn it on 2hours before the lights come on. This is mainly to save CO2 though rather than save gasing the fish. Others run airstones or raise their spraybars/lily pipes at night just incase.

Remember, high CO2 doesn't nessaarily mean low O2

So what should i do.

With this set up you have to fill up the diffuser by opening the tap on the C02 canister then leave it all to diffuse through the ppm. It says one or two fillings a day should be ok but when sould i fill it?

This is the The TetraPlant CO2 Optimat yes?
Fill the diffuser with CO2 an hour or two before the lights come on. When the diffuser is empty, fill it again and then wait to refill it the next morning.
The Optimat is by no means the best way of getting CO2 into a tank, however if the tank has low lighting then you should be ok, and see the benefits.

I'm sorry, this is just what I have read on this forum. I guess it was not the most reliable information though.

But I would turn the Co2 off at night, or like stated above, turn it almost off. Photosynthesis slows down near the end of the day and during the night. I know a lot of people that completely turn off their Co2 pumps at night, and there is not problem what-so-ever in doing this, and it will save on Co2. :good:

Just try to keep your plants healthy....unhealthy plants will lead to other problems, most likely algae growth.

Sorry again for that mis-leading info. :(

All part of learning FHM :)
I've looked back at some of my posts from years ago and thought what was I thinking.

Ahem to that.
