I had a very pleasant surprise while I was feeding my fish on Friday evening. I found eggs in the tank with these corys that I bought a few months ago at the lfs. The eggs were scattered all around on the glass and the plants.

My eyes just about cross when I try to figure out which "spotted cory" is which. If Coryologist happens to be reading this, your help would be especially appreciated. :D

Thanks for the I.D., Frank. And thanks to everyone for looking. :)

They are pretty little fish but on the small side. I was particularly surprised to find the eggs because I didn't think they were mature yet. I see now that C. brevirostris is not as large a cory as I thought it would be.

I've been keeping 10 of them in a single species, 10 gallon tank. The temperature is 71.5 F. and they have not been conditioned for breeding or received any special attention to encourage spawning.

I'm hoping the eggs hatch today. :D

It's been four days since I've found them and still no signs of any fry. A few of the eggs have developed fungus but most of them still appear viable. I'm still hoping for the best. Maybe tomorrow will be the day. :D

Good news! They're starting to hatch. So far there are just a few of them but the others are sure to follow. I'll try to get a picture before I move them into a 2 1/2 gallon tank later today. :D

And here they are!

And a little closer up:

The one remaining egg that you can see in the first picture did hatch too. The water in the 2 lb. deli container I use was at 71.7 F. which might account for the length of time it took. The pH of the spawning tank is 7.2.

The fry, about 30 of them, are now in the 2 1/2 gallon tank, nestled in a layer of filter squeezings. :D
