Thso morning I checked the tank to discover that onf of my newly acquired clown loaches had died...I had barely had them for 48 hours...and allready one death...surely even I couldn't have done something bad in such a short time...so naturally I checked the ammo, nitrites and nitrates....ammo 0, nitrate 5ppm and nitrite 0.1ppm....yes...the nitrites were slightly high...which surprised me as the filter has been cycled on the 30gall for ages and I ran it overnight on the quar tank before putting the loaches in. Naturally I have done a water change and will monitor the behaviour of the other fish as well as the nitrite/ammo again....if it starts to rise at all, I will have to put them into the 75gall that they were going to be going into, just not for 2 weeks..I'd rather give the fish no quarantine period than subject them to any ammonia/nitrite (considering how senstivie they are)....
I hadn't really gotten attached to them yet as they are in a fairly dark tank in a spot I don't watch all the time and I had only had the fish for less than 48 hours....but still....poor little guy...
bye bye little fishie!!
OH....the other guys seem to be doing well and were very interested in the Python when I was doing the water change!!
