I have been so frustrated with my fishroom because of limited space. It's a pretty small room and I've been trying to figure out a better way to utilize my space. Currently I have two steel shelving units, 48 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 72 inches high, a 55 gallon growout tank, and two smaller shelving units. Basically surrounds the perimeter.

Well, all my shelves are pretty full with the shelves against the wall. So I'm thinking, if I pull the shelves off the wall and make rows I would be able to access them, from both sides which would mean an extra row of bettas on each shelf :hyper: :flex: Right now I have pretty much just the front halves of the shelves with tanks because I want to be able to keep a close eye on the fish. I can also keep the guppies near the outlets (along with my spawn and growouts) and betta tanks and jars that don't need outlets in the middle.

My only concern is heating. For those of you who don't know, my fishroom is not in the house, it's a room built off of the garage and I heat it with a space heater. My concern with this is the fish in the middle of the room may be overheated...I'll have to experiment with heater placement I suppose.

Anyways, I'm so excited! I'm picking up eight 5 gallon tanks pretty soon for guppy fry and I have been freaking out over where they are gonna go :S

Yay :band:

If you add some fans to the room you should be able to keep the air moveing enought to keep everyfish happy and the right temp, so long as the heater isn't pointed directly at any tank. Personally I'd stop by the lumber yard and get the wood to build a new fish room, but maybe its too cold out ATM (althought people from places with real winters know that its the best time to build and don't mind a touch of frost bite here and there) :p

Har-Har

Fans are a good idea  I honestly would build a new fishroom, but we're only staying in our house for another two years or so and then we plan to build a new house which I will put a fishroom in the basement :)

put a fish room in the basement? no no no  Make the basement a fishroom  AQlso be sure you have nice thick walls (8"-12") because they pay for them selves when you keep the house above 55F :)

Sorrell it must be awesome to have a fish room but I’m curious. How much time do you spend in there? I’ve stationed my fish tanks in the areas of my house where I spend most of my time. For a while I had a 30g in my bedroom but I’m never in there (sad I know) so I moved it to my living room. Do you have some kind of desk for work or couch to hang on in your fish room?

To tell you the truth I actually used to have a love seat out there but it got booted for shelves. Then I put a tanle in there which was actually really nice, but once again not enough space. I do have a chair that I sit on so I can watch spawns from across the room. I also keep a journal of water changes, spawns, fish changes (like if someone didn't eat or something) and so I'll sit to do that too.

I am out there at least once an hour from about 10AM to 2AM when I tuck them in  I'm out there to do water changes twice a day and I feed three times a day. The rest of the time I'm just doing rounds.

I do have a CD player out there so I'm always rocking out with the fishies :look:

Well I just checked out your profile so you have to have a fish room. I can’t imagine how in the world you deal with all of those tanks. I only have five and I spend so much time on them. Someday I want to get one of those huge tanks you see at the big LFS and I want it in my living room!

Remember I don't work outside my home though, so basically I do fish, take care of my kids, the other pets, and hang out on the forums

This guy in my betta club said he wants to build a huge pond outside his house covered with a greenhouse and then remove a wall and replace it with thick plexiglass so you could view it from inside the house. He wants to fill it with pacus and other monsters. That would be awesome :hyper:

edit-spelling so bad I actually spelled different words :S It's late

Can you please post pics of your fishroom.

I just moved from a 2bdr townhouse, to an 3bdr.

Got a great deal which I pay less for the 3 bdr, anyway.

The extra bdr is downstairs, and has its own bathroom, so u know i had to make it office slash fish room.

3 tanks from sig are set up and running in some form, gonna set up last one in couple of weeks.

gf doesnot mind cause it keep tanks out of common areas.

She does not like multiple tank look, so she agreed to let me highjack room since the move was to save money, not to gain space.

Then next summer when I am off (teacher) I will set up 1 6ft tank (probably 125) as centerpiece of living room
