Hi everyone,

Aside from the obvious things like any leakage problems etc could anyone advise me on the questions to ask and things to look for when buying a second hand aquarium?

Anyone had any specific problems with second hand aquariums?

Thanks

Mark

If they're really old you might want to try find one that comes with a lid as they can be quite hard to find for some tanks..

i've found one that i like the look of and its about 4 years old, i want to ask as many questions as possible though so i'm not sold a dud!!

i always ask them to fill it with water before i take it - but them i'm cheeky lol
make sure that any scratches can be hidden or are on the back of the tank cos else they will annoy you

i always put eatra sealant on a second hand tank before i use it myself just to be on the safe side

if it comes with a stand check the stand for water stains etc , this can sometimes make them weak once the tank is refilled with water the stand might not take the weight of the tank - so sit on the stand

just make sure everything works, inc filter and heater, and light, and make sure the tank has no chips and small cracks, thats it really, if it looks good and for the right price then thats all you need to worry about it

if possible see the tank up and running, all equipment switched on and working, filled with water etc. then you'd spot any leaks or something like a noisy underperforming filter etc.
