I have read about halfbeaks online and in books but I dont know were you could buy them. Where do all you guys with halfbeaks buy yours? :)

Here they tend to come and go every few months. When one fish store has them, many do.

Are you in the US or UK? In the UK, try visiting the Tropical Fish Finder web site, which databases the stock from a large number of stores such as Wildwoods and Wholesale Tropicals. Do a search for "halfbeak", and these for each species, click the "Stock" button to see which, if any, stores have them right now.

Otherwise, try asking your local shop to get them in for you. You'll likely need to commit to buying half a dozen rather than one or two. Finally, look for local fish clubs in your neighbourhood. These are a very good way to get surplus fish from other people.

Cheers,

Neale

There's a pair of "red-fin" (nom. ebradtii) on Aquabid right now. I bought a pair from the same seller a couple weeks ago, and couldn't be more pleased. The fish are thriving, he's very knowledgeable, gave me some good advice, and his packing and shipping were fantastic.

There's also an auction for 6 unsexed "wrestling" halfbeaks (derm. pusilis) here but I don't know anything about the seller and haven't interacted with him personally.

Very nice fish. Those definitely are N. ebrardtii, which is one of the few species that prefers hard water, perhaps even with a little marine salt if you live in a soft water area. My N. ebrardtii were never quite as colourful as those, so I wonder if colour-enhancing foods have helped a little?

Cheers,

Neale
