Buying Fish

Hi all

I have been told by a colleague of mine that you are able to buy fish online. and are much cheaper than shops. Just want to know if anyone knows of such sites in the uk as am unable to find them myself

I don't know of any, sorry. But i did want to say that i much prefer going into a shop to view the fish becuase atleast then you can notice any problems

Ebay is always good but make sure you read all the info on sellers.

IMO buying online is rarely cheaper on fish unless you're buying in large quantities, since the shipping cost generally far outweighs the savings of the fish.

You should really only buy online if you can't find/order something from a local shop.

The actual price of the fish may be lower, but shipping can be up to $40 on that $2 fish. You'd have to buy a ton to get the shipping cost per fish to a reasonable level. Also, the issues with dead on arrivals are unattractive. Alot of places will give you a refund or credit on the fish cost, but that's laughable compared to shipping which you don't get credit on.

This has whats put me off buying online. By time you have paid for delivery you have spent over the odds.

The only place I can find to buy a clown pleco is online as no stores sell them, im still reluctant to buy off lnternet.

The only fish I've purchased online were about 12 or 15 cherry chrimp off of ebay. The reason for purchasing these shrimps is because the cheapest any LFS in town has them is for $5 a piece, and lord knows how old they are (they only live a year or so) I was able to get 12-15 for the price of $5 at my LFS and they are young shrimp that will last longer in my tank and give me a better chance at breeding.
