Buying A Camera -- Usa

Okay, I need a better camera than the one I have now, so I'm going to save up for a new one. I want one that takes good macro shots, and has good optical zoom. That's pretty much all the requirements. Oh, and I have a budget of under $500. If anyone could point me in a good direction, that would be nice.

Get a used 6 MP DSLR from eBay. Or find one on sale they are going to be much much better than any point and shoot camera you'll find no mater how much you spend or how many MP's it has.
