Just wanted to query something. I have read on an article on this forum, that when they pair off (male and female), they can become aggressive to other tank members. How far does this aggression go, will they just chase or will they kill the other fish? I am wondering whether to get just the 2, or 4.

I have 3 rainbows (2 male 1 female) in a 40g tank, and they all get along quite well... The 2 males do compete for the right to spawn with the female, but I've never seen damage on either of the males.

I've never had all 3 together when 2 were spawning.. so I couldn't really tell you what might happen when there are actually eggs/fry...

How big is the tank you're thinking of using? Might you be able to put a divider in when/if they pair up?

The tank is just over 180 litres, not sure what that equates to in gallons, but it's the Fluval 1000 Duo Deep. I could place a divider in there, and I don't think space would be a problem as I currently only 4 barbs, 4 mountain minnows, and around 15 corys, so the mid-top sections are almost empty.

That's about 50 gallons... if you could put a divider in if you needed to, you might wanna see what happens when they spawn, and put one in if needed.

Thats if they do spawn.. I'm having enough trouble with spawning Corys!

But thanks for all your help, it's appreciated.
