Buy Water From Fish Shops

May seem a daft question but when buying water from you local aquatic shop what sort of price do you pay and do you have to provide your own container or does it already come contained

RO water? Normally about 10p a litre, totally unsuitable for freshwater unless you add minerals back into it.

My LFS sells it for 10p a litre fresh, or 30p a litre salted.

RO water isn't necessary for freshwater tanks, but it can help to mix it in with your tap water if you have very hard water.

Looking to use it for a malawi setup if its any good

Terrible for a Malawi set-up pretty much the exact opposite of what you want .

Is there something wrong with your tap water (i.e. ammonia or excessive nitrates) that you are trying to avoid? Or did somebody reccomend RO for Malawis to you?

RO water is just that water with nowt in. Ultra soft. Malawis need hard water so to use RO water to do that you'd spend a small fortune on RO water and minerals to add to it over the years. As said above tap water is usually a good base to work from for them, if you need pH a bit higher then add some coral sand to filter or use limestone rocks in setup.

As saaid above, there is definitely no reason to use RO water on Malawi's.

only reason i ask is when i do a water change nitrate level goes up so i done i nitrate test on my tapwater on three seprate days and all times exceeds 70, so i'm doing water changes and ending up going nowhere,

All other tests and spot on

may try out putting in a nitrasafe bag in filter

your test will be wrong, i trust your using API?

I belive the legal limit in the uk to be 40ppm so if it accurate suggest you get o the phone to teh water board

Having said that, the way an API test works, if the result is wrong it'll be higher than what the test says, not lower.
