Had a ride out this afternoon to look at Swallow Aquatics in Appledore. Fancied a change of scenery and the car needed the cobwebs blowing away.

Spent a while in there and TBH, very disappointing selection of Tropical. Masses of Marine though. However, the whole place was very clinical like a dentist's surgery and stock was seriously over-priced.

There was one exception though, those being Bronze Corys at £2.25 each. Someone will be in for a bargain though as half the 'Bronze' are actually Emeralds.

Staff didn't seem very knowledgable either. One young guy was cleaning the tanks with an algae scraper. When I passed, he was cleaning a tank marked up as quarantine. Then he used the same tool straight into a sale tank without even cleaning it. ####, those fish in quarantine could have had ich or anything!

Anyway, needless to say we ended up back at Ace in Ashford. Having a look around the tanks, as you do, I spotted a gorgeous VT in a goldish yellow colour.

Without a second thought, he was bagged up and on the way home (£3.00 - me loves sly discounts :D ).

Thus the fun began.

Where the smeg is he going to live?

Out goes the TV (we never watch it anyway). On the stand goes the spare (and scratched to smeg) Fluval Roma 60. The fry tank contents are moved over wholesale. Then it's a frantic clean of the Aqua 40.

Once clean, I added a sponge filter, heater and 60% mature water from Slippy's tank and topped up with fresh.

Tomorrow i'll be picking up some substrate and a couple of plants. I didn't want to use the original gravel as it is full of fry poo and would have taken ages to clean. Just got to decide what colour gravel will best show him off.

I may also pick up a few Pygmy Corys as well.

Anyway, here's a pic of Mango (sorry about the quality but there's loads of air bubbles on the tank at the mo)

:hyper: :hyper: beautiful...I buy bettas on impulse and then have to move everything around when I get home

lol i don't think i have ever preplanned a betta buy. all six were spur of the moment, or i was giving my self enormus guilt for leaving them in horrid conditions (storm and Friday)
anyways mango is beautiful, and the name is unique congrats on the new family member.
ps how do you get there pics in little boxes on you sig?

I cropped the images to the same size and loaded them all into Microsoft Paint, planting them in a line. I then added the text with clear background. Uploaded to Photobucket and direct linked to my sig using the picture button.

He is a pretty boy. I would do black gravel with him...

i would do some sort of darker color to make him stand out no matter where he is.
looking back, i think that black is a great color for gravel, red too.
He is a very pretty betta. I love the solid color. He is just my like grey guy.
here is a video. (not trying to spam the vid either)
my betta

Congrats on Mango - yellows are so rare, too.
Since the forum is determining your tank design, yes-you-have-to-use-black-gravel-cause-it'll-be-so-totally-cool-with-his-colour-OMG!
Of course, you have to imagine the above in Valley Girl Speak or closest equivalent, if you know what that is...
But, yeah, another nice betta pick, and it's lucky you always keep a spare tank for a new friend.
I'd suggest that since you obviously have the knack for this, you pick up a few more.
I think we're all doomed to drown in bettas - darn, eh?

:hyper: :hyper: I got a little girl that he would die for! by the way she is a right eggy little tart, upsets all the boys!
