Fish Addict
Had a ride out this afternoon to look at Swallow Aquatics in Appledore. Fancied a change of scenery and the car needed the cobwebs blowing away.
Spent a while in there and TBH, very disappointing selection of Tropical. Masses of Marine though. However, the whole place was very clinical like a dentist's surgery and stock was seriously over-priced.
There was one exception though, those being Bronze Corys at £2.25 each. Someone will be in for a bargain though as half the 'Bronze' are actually Emeralds.
Staff didn't seem very knowledgable either. One young guy was cleaning the tanks with an algae scraper. When I passed, he was cleaning a tank marked up as quarantine. Then he used the same tool straight into a sale tank without even cleaning it. ####, those fish in quarantine could have had ich or anything!
Anyway, needless to say we ended up back at Ace in Ashford. Having a look around the tanks, as you do, I spotted a gorgeous VT in a goldish yellow colour.
Without a second thought, he was bagged up and on the way home (£3.00 - me loves sly discounts
).
Thus the fun began.
Where the smeg is he going to live?
Out goes the TV (we never watch it anyway). On the stand goes the spare (and scratched to smeg) Fluval Roma 60. The fry tank contents are moved over wholesale. Then it's a frantic clean of the Aqua 40.
Once clean, I added a sponge filter, heater and 60% mature water from Slippy's tank and topped up with fresh.
Tomorrow i'll be picking up some substrate and a couple of plants. I didn't want to use the original gravel as it is full of fry poo and would have taken ages to clean. Just got to decide what colour gravel will best show him off.
I may also pick up a few Pygmy Corys as well.
Anyway, here's a pic of Mango (sorry about the quality but there's loads of air bubbles on the tank at the mo)
