anyone ever heard of a butterfly goby??? The pet shop by me has a few, there really small they say that they get about 1 1/2 inchs total. there greyish in color with lighter grey markings, they also have larger fins and swim really slow. Cant find anything on the web.

Butterfly goby is a common name used in the hobby for several different fish.
The actual butterfly goby (Amblygobius albimaculatus) is hard brackish to marine and brightly coloured. See here.

Another fish commonly called 'Butterfly goby' by fish stores isn't actually a goby at all, Vespicula depressifrons is a Wasp Fish (also known as a 'Leaf Goblin fish') and sounds a lot more like what you describe.
Beware! these fish have venomous spines that inflict a painful sting!
See here.
