I have tank a friend gave me, but I have no idea how many gallons it holds and I'm horrible at maths. It is 4 feet long, 13 inches wide, and 17 inches tall. Can anybody help me out here? -_-

I think there's a pinned thread either here or in the beginners section with links to sites that do such calculations for you.

I would try to work it out but I can't work in feet and inches when it comes to dimensions :p I only use inches for fish! Don't ask me why...

It's probably around 40 gallons though.

Actual tank size would be 45.9 gallons.

10608 cubic inches (48 x 13 x x17) = 6.139 cubic feet
7.48 gallon / cubic foot = 45.92 gallons

Work it out by the length. I know you have different heights/depths etc, but if you go by each foot long is about 10 gallons, you get a very quick but fairly accurate gallonage.

That doesn't work at all. I have a 3 gallon tank that is one foot long. That only works for tanks between about 10 and 30 gallons.

Make sure you know whether it is UK or US gallons.

Hi Panther :)

That's an unusual size tank. If you live in the US, the standard measurement for a 55 gallon tank is usually 48" x 13" x 20". When you measured the height, did you measure the black part too?

Another standard US tank is the 40 gallon long, which is 48" x 13" x 16."

Of course, if you live somewhere else, there are other sizes made. :D
