Just a really quick question, probably silly I know. What does it mean when I see BUMP written in a topic ?
Thanks

To bump the thread back up to the top of the board, so it gets some answers.

Bumping a thread is a frequently frowned upon forum technique to move a thread above other threads. In situations where a thread is sliding off the bottom of the page unanswered after a day or so, here at least, it is not against the rules.

On the net in general, bumping a thread is likely to be interpreted as rude. In most forums, it will be against the rules and deleted by the forum moderators.

TTT

All the forums I go to use BUMP occasionally. It's never been considered rude.

>>> It's never been considered rude.

Do it after you've been warned once on the other forums I mod and your banned. It depends on the site of course, aybe the subject area - all the computer boards I frequent would consider it a capital offence.

The reason I made that comment was I didn't want somebody from here getting into trouble because there was no warning to the contrary.

Goobers bump is a good example of a bad bump. The question had been answered and the thread was still on the front page.

Thank you very much - sorry for the slow reply, I have been away in JHQ and have only just got around to reading your replies.
I am very wary of asking questions in forums when I read some of the rude replies that some people get to a simple question. I never know what would upset some peaple and it seems so easily done.
I will now know not to use the bump thing - not that I knew what it was for before now!
Thanks again

well, no one here really minds if you bump a request for advice if it gets knocked back a few pages. just try not to bump more than once or twice a week :p

not if you really want your question answered , someone who could have answered it 2 days earlier may not have been around but is when you bump .....

...It might help if you ask ......."can anyone please help me "? instead of typing "bump" either way I'll help if I can , most here would ............ of course if you have already had a significant amount of replies with appropriate answers that could be another story .
