Well, after doing thorough water changes in two tanks; moving a bunch of fry to my big tank, moving my sick swordtail to my little tank and then treating him with Interpet 9 - he's gone. I think the stress was too much for him... now I kinda wish I had just left him alone.
Hope the little ones survive in the big tank or I'm going to feel like a real ####head.

thanks, lilfishie. Guess I did what I could. Will have to get a new mate for the four female swordtails (one is his offspring) that he left behind!

yes, sorry for your loss. i am coming off of a loss this weekend. arggh!

it's interesting how we can go back in our heads and re-think if only i should have done this or that, etc.

at least we can say we tried.

i was reading somewhere how to euthanize a fish and it was quite sad....put in a disposable cup with 1/2 tank water and wrap it up in a zip lock and freeze in the freezer. discard when turned into ice. very cold i say!

thanks bubbles and gareth. (and - gareth - sorry about the weekend loss - what happened??)

Urgh -the freezer thing sounds harsh, but I guess if they were really suffering or something it's pretty quick. Can't stand to see them suffer for a long time.
thanks again,
Shelly

Wouldn't reccomend that freezing method personally....
The one assumed to be quickest is to part-freeze the water in a bowl prior to Euthanasia, then crack a hole in the top of the ice and insert the fish.Must be quicker than waiting for the water to cool with the fish inside.
From what i've heard the Alka-Seltzer method is fairly quick.....

Sorry to hear of your loss :byebye:

Awww - thanks, Germ. Hopefully whatever it was only affected him, poor guy, and not anyone else in his tank. Will get another male swordtail soon- I've got four females now!
