Hi sorry if this is the wrong forum i wasn't sure where to ask.

I have bought 3 bumblebee gobi's(though one has since died) as we had one a while ago and like him so thought we'd get 3 for £5.But the one we had before never seemed to eat anything so what i want to know is what food do they eat and how best to feed them?

Thanks:)

Bumblebees can be tricky to feed. They prefer live food (daphnia, bloodworms, and brine shrimps work well). But they will also eat frozen foods (the wet frozen kinds, not free dried). Mine like bloodworms, lobster eggs (which you buy at a marine aquarium shop), and small pieces of regular prawn of the type humans eat. The latter need to be cut into chunks they can easily swallow.

The main thing is that BBGs are slow feeders, so mixing them with very aggressive feeders tends to mean they starve. Put food right in front of them, and make sure they have time to eat.

This message has been moved to brackish forum for some reason. Wild BBGs live in freshwater as well as slightly brackish. In aquaria adding a little salt is usually recommended, though it isn't essential if the pH and hardness are reasonably high. Most BBGs die prematurely from starving to death, not from water chemistry issues.

Cheers,

Neale

Thanks Neale :)

Is there anyway of telling what sex they are?:)

Yes: females are bigger, rounder, and have an ovipositor immediately before spawning. Males are more colourful and change colour (usually) when ready to spawn.

Personally, I'd get a group. They're more fun than when kept in twos. You only need about a gallon per fish, plus a cave (e.g. a snail shell). The gobies will spend all day chasing one another about -- it's great fun to watch.

Cheers,

Neale

I hope you don't mind I hijack your thread, could 3 or 4 go in a 30g tank with surprisingly friendly F8's?
